Intel will use the Internet of Things technology to investigate … – Adrenaline

An event that worries scientists around the world is the mysterious disappearance and decrease in the number of bees around the world that can bring many problems for humanity, as the little insects are responsible for pollinating about a third of the food that humanity consumes.

To study this mystery, the Organisation for Scientific and Industrial Research of the Australian Commonwealth (CSIRO) began investigating last year, the behavior of the bees using RFID technology to monitor the movement of insects and find out the cause of this phenomenon.

Today, CSIRO has partnered with Intel, which will give the group its Intel Edison technology, designed for use with the Internet of Things. A great company will provide Edison Breakout Board Kit, which allows you to create a larger monitoring network.

According to the Brazilian Paulo de Souza, who heads the CSIRO project, the partnership with Intel will help analyze the effects of factors such as stress and diseases, pesticides and pollution that are hindering the bees. With motion sensors, the researchers could see the movement variations and discover what factors are linked to it.

The Edison sensors will be placed inside the hives and will record the behavior of tracked bees, which carry a kind of backpack with an RFID sensor. The project aims to expand the platform over time and monitor about 2.5 million bees 2017.
