With the growing popularity of facial recognition software being used everywhere, especially by security companies, a new niche in the technology market: gadgets that prevent facial identification, disguising the human face patterns that are identifiable through this technology.

The National Institute of Informatics of Japan in 2012 developed an eyeglass model that emits 11 infrared lights placed at strategic points around the nose, which confuses the existing system of facial identification. From this principle, Japanese scientists have developed a much more refined version of the device.

The possible final version of the “Display Privacy” must have angles and patterns on the lens able to reflect or absorb light. This should prevent the human face patterns can be identified by any currently available software on the market.

structure that allows good visibility, the gadget was successful in 90% of face identification of cases through a video capture, whether made by security cameras, smartphones or digital cameras.

Entertaining, new identification technologies available in the market like the one developed by Facebook, using other information – not only patterns and details of the face – to classify individuals. This can be an indicator that glasses can become obsolete prematurely ahead of changing technologies.
