Microsoft tests technology that provides the user command before … – UOL

  • Play

The MIcrosoft is developing technology for touch screens that could predict several commands the smartphone user wants to activate, according to the hand position and proximity of the fingers in relation to certain areas of the screen.

in a video posted on Microsoft Research channel, they explain that the prototype creates a sort of “grid” in a self-capacitive screen that can interpret both the position in which the cell is held, the finger movements. The technique relies on the help of sensors on the device side.

Some examples how the technology will work in practice were presented. In a video player, it shows the commands to play and move as the finger approaches the position where these commands should be

it also does the same thing if you prefer to use the thumb, adjusting the buttons to the side of the screen.

in a web browser, another possibility would be a comprehensive selection of each link as finger walks across the screen.

The prototype also recognizes multitouch movements and possibilities. A finger can touch the screen and the other to open a menu of buttons for that specific app or task. This is the case below when a text file is selected and then come the options to copy, delete, print and share.

Microsoft has not announced when (or if) this technology will for their smartphones. The company still has not taken off in the handset market. Their latest release in the sector was the Lumia 650 in February, and the company admitted that its mobile platform, Windows Phone will not be your focus in 2016.
