Technology word is feminine – Computerworld

For a TED Talk published in early February this year, lawyer and American politics and also founder of the nonprofit Girls Who Code, Reshma Saujani, said girls are usually ‘trained’ to be perfect, must reach ever the best grades and behave well. The boys, on the other hand, are encouraged to ‘play up’, and even that hurt, the important thing is the fact that tried. According to Reshma, society creates girls to be perfect, and boys to be brave.

In the technology world where we are often forced to risk, it is not hard to see that reflection. There is still a very low number of women working in the industry, and an even smaller salary – they receive 74.5% of the wages of men, according to a study by the IBGE. To get an idea of the 200 largest companies in Brazil, only three have women in charge. Thinking about it, we ask: why are there so few women in technology? How can companies do to empower their women and, with that, increase their participation in business?

Obviously, the chauvinistic thinking and even a little repressor many sectors of technology needs to change, values such as flexibility of labor, women workers, and the power of organization and creativity, must be valued; as in the case in which more than one activity to be performed at the same time and by the same person; women, often due to the impositions of society, have created a strong power of resilience and adaptation, which are essential in these situations

There is also the false assumption that to work in technology is necessary mathematical knowledge.; on the contrary, it is misleading to think that can not work with the marketing or with the commercial sectors of an IT company. And even – why not? – Within development areas, asking for a touch more creativity

Today, more than ever, it is necessary that companies recognize the value of women in the technology market, on the other hand, even. more importantly, women must realize itself the potential to devote to the sector. There are projects that encourage women’s participation in technology; according to Staffing Industry, the English company Empiric recruitment, plans to invest and attract more than 5,000 women for the area until 2020. The Girls Who Code of Saujani, intends to put one million women in the computing market also by 2020 . of course, these initiatives do not just happen out of the country, in Brazil the computer scientist Camila Achutti, founded the Women in computing blog to encourage Brazilian. And there are many other opportunities for women who want to know and act in such an interesting universe.

In the case of companies, the task is to instigate the creation of discussion groups on women’s performance in the market and even within the company itself. Actions to raise tariffs and share experiences will undoubtedly enrich not only the team relationship, but also the relationship with the company itself. In addition, the company can create specific policies for hiring women in strategic positions, and to invest in partnerships with universities, so there is the incentive of these girls in their careers. We need more seats are occupied by women. We need more time to be devoted to these talents often afraid to try and achieve. If you were taught to be perfect, are so perfect in bravery. Some of you have noticed that ‘technology’ is written in the feminine?
