The Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST, in English acronym) initiated the establishment of a first base of genetic data in order to predict the risk of certain diseases, inform the ‘average’ locations.
A MUST presented on Wednesday, the first phase the results, based on information collected from a sample of 1,000 young people, concluding that cancers such as lung, breast, ovary and prostate are going to have a higher incidence rate in territory
But the risk of Macao residents could develop neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s is less -.. compared to northern records of China or the European and American continents
A MUST wants to extend the sample – to understand small -. but lacks funds for this purpose, after the first phase of the study was supported by funding from the Henry Fok Foundation
However, as stressed by the Director of Health Sciences School of MUST, Manson Fok, a larger study needs government support, particularly to establish the correlation between genetic factors and risks associated with the environment.
