Google records patent technology to map holes in the streets – Digital Look

Google filed a patent that would allow the company to use the user’s car’s location via GPS and sensors to detect holes in the streets and store information in a database. Thus, the company’s services could suggest the drivers paths less bumpy, or at least avoid unpleasant surprises.

From the technology, Google could monitor car vibrations to understand if he just went through a hole in the street. Crossing this information with the GPS, you would be able to mark the location of the fault. By doing this many cars at the same time, the company would be able to create a map of holes and would be able to suggest routes that avoid this kind of problem. It would not surprise if Google’s autonomous cars use this technology to map the streets.

If you leave the paper, which is not always guaranteed in patents, the concept should be applied initially in the United States. There, it is estimated that the process of overcrowding causes a loss of US $ 87 billion a year; the holes are an important part of that statistic, causing congestion, accidents and damage to cars.

Of course, it’s not just the United States that potholed roads are problems. There is a country in South America called Brazil also suffers from this evil, both in cities and in federal and state roads.
