The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Aldo Rebelo, defended today (13) in São Carlos, São Paulo, the importance of science and technology as tools for solving the country’s problems in several areas, such as defense, agriculture and infrastructure. According to him, it is essential to understand that research is the only way for sustainable development in Brazil.
The minister believes that investment in innovation, which is the science and applied technology can help country overcome the economic crisis as it increases the competitiveness of Brazilian companies and increases the generation of taxes. “Relying on science and technology development in industry and service sector, the country gains competitiveness. In other words, companies generate more jobs, and generate a profit taxes. Thus may have global market share with the importance of Brazil, “he said.
In São Carlos, São Paulo, for the opening of the 67th Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC) Aldo Rebelo said he thinks a misconception that science has been removed from the regulatory text of the social background of the pre-salt, the National Congress, which allocated half of the funds for health and education. “I do not see how to make education and health without science,” he said, saying that scientific research is essential to “all areas”.
Rebelo advocated increased public and private investment in the sector and the inclusion of theme in the regulation of remaining 50% of funds from the social fund pre-salt. He also announced the delivery soon of a proposal developed with leading scientific institutions of the country to use part of this fund to President Dilma Rousseff.
During the installation of the scientific program of the meeting of the SBPC, the minister received a document from the students of the Federal University of São Carlos (Ufscar) calling for the maintenance of investments in research, they said, were compromised by cutting almost R $ 2 billion in the budget of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Rebelo assessed that the cuts in the sector are transient and that the main programs were not compromised. He said the ministry’s priority is to restore the budget of the Union and the states, seeking outside sources to provide the resources.
According to the minister, Brazil has increased investments in the sector. In its assessment. the resources devoted to science show upward curve over the past 15 years in the country. Currently, he added that Brazil is going through a time of contraction of resources, “but this is temporary,” he believes.
The Minister acknowledged that the fact that Brazil, seventh in the world economy, not responding or by 2% of world scientific publication is not good, but points out that in recent years the country has advanced a lot. “It should be taken into account our recent past.
