In Las Vegas presents products and visions of the future, an event dominated by cars, wearables and artificial intelligence

The CES consumer electronics fair is to show how old and new technologies can coexist in a market where the boundaries are to dissipate. In 2016 edition, which runs until Saturday in Las Vegas, Sony released a portable turntable to dust off vinyl records, the same day that Panasonic unveiled the new generation of Blu-ray, called Freeze-ray. And Intel showed how to revolutionize the sport.

Vinyl is back

“Vinyl return is happening to all generations” said the president of Sony Electronics, Mike Fasulo, technological press conference. This is how the executive introduced the new PS-HX500 turntable, which will be in stores in the second quarter. It’s an upset launch for audiophiles and consumers who want to recover the sound quality lost with the music compression on CD and distributed formats on the internet such as MP3.

The trend from the past year, the appearance of services stream with sound at high resolution (the case of tidal), but the fact is that the vinyl record sales are maximum of 26 years in the USA and rising worldwide . Fasulo explained that the turntable can be connected to the laptop, which then decodes the sound on the Sony proprietary format or WAV, or speakers. A detail: the PS-HX500 has anti-vibration technology, which prevents the disc skip or scratches by the needle

The new generation of Blu-ray

It is the Panasonic and is called Freeze-ray, developed in coordination with Facebook. The social network is the first to use the new optical disks, facing the data in deep storage – that are accessed very infrequently. Advantages? Low power consumption, resistance to environmental change and immutability, with savings at the cost level. The idea, said the president of Panasonic AVC Networks unit, Yasuji Enokido, is that Facebook users can access within several years “to photos published yesterday.” The executive said that Panasonic will make the technology an industry standard, other companies may buy.

Wearables and artificial intelligence

One of the presentations crowded was Intel’s CEO, Brian Kzarnich. There were drones flying in the room a demo of the new Yuneec Typhoon H, avoiding obstacles with the camera technology and smart sensors Real Sense and will cost less than two thousand euros. There was generated music with gestures in the air by the Indian musician Ar Rahman, known for the soundtrack of the film Slumdog Millionaire ?, through a wireless bands that are placed on the fingers.

But the biggest focus was on sport : Intel is testing Replays 3D solution that allows consumers to control the repetition of images on game broadcasts. “You can see the angle of the game you want,” Kzarnich said, “ceasing to be limited” to the director chooses to show. The tests are to basketball, but Intel plans to expand to other sports, including football.

Kzarnich also revealed that the company will release smart glasses in partnership with Luxottica in the second half of the year. Oakley Radar Pace are the opposite of Google Glass: stylized, suitable for sportsmen and interacting by voice instead of requiring touches on the stems. The Ironman Craig Alexander triple champion was on stage to show how the artificial intelligence behind the glasses helps you train, analyzing their performance, designing training schemes and helping during the performance. “It’s a revolution in the sport,” said the CEO, about the various technologies that Intel is applying to the area, with the Curie processor and the Real Sense technology. And there was time to show a Segway robot and an intelligent protective helmet for workers in areas where the use is required.
