About 400 people are using and the daily test technological solutions to simplify the lives of the elderly, as part of a project of the Health Cluster Portugal (HCP), estimated at EUR 6.8 million.
The pilot test, to be held in Oporto, Aveiro, Covilha and Évora, is the result of AAL4ALL (‘Ambient Assisted Living’ for all), which is funded in 4.8 million the NSRF and brings together 30 partner organizations in order to develop and implement technology and services to support the senior population with regard to health care and well-being.
“The AAL4ALL initiative brings solutions and point out possible directions to one of the great challenges of our time: to ensure that we do not lose quality of life as we age the increase in the elderly population and the need to provide means to respond to the increasing demand for better healthcare and well. -being are the basis of this initiative, “said the executive director of the Health Cluster Portugal.
According to Joaquim Cunha,” the proper use of TICE (Technology Information, Communication and Electronics) is essential in giving the senior population to maintain your lifestyle in an autonomous way, with quality and their usual environment, ie at home or at work. This initiative was possible to join companies and leading institutions in the areas of knowledge relevant to the intended goals, and get results validated by users, in a context where the concern to ensure sustainable business models has always been present. “
In a statement, the HCP states that over the four-year project (2011-2015) were developed “hundreds of tests and created dozens of innovative solutions” with the goal of providing “a new impetus to the prospect of living into old age with quality of life due to the use of new technologies that support the maintenance of their lifestyle in an autonomous way, in the current environment of your home. “
Some examples of these technologies go through fall detection elderly / smartphone user and sending a SMS alert to your caregiver, reminder to take medication, monitoring of physical activity, number of steps made count, distance calculation and kilocalories expended, among others.
The results of this project will be presented next Monday, in the Auditorium of the Science and Technology Park, University of Porto (UPTEC), between 14:00 and 17:45.
