The project uses 3D technology to preserve 400 styles of kung fu – BBC Brasil

A digital project in Hong Kong is seeking to preserve the memory of more than 400 different styles of kung fu.

part of the initiative, Wong Iv-Kau waits in a studio while his black costume is covered in sensors that capture all of their movements.

The master of kung fu 56-year-old participates in the first file of martial arts in 3D known in the world, a project that aims to digitally preserve a tradition that runs the risk of losing on time, according to experts.

“When I was a student, I learned the movements and got a manual to read. Now we have this, where everything is recorded and preserved with accuracy,” says Wong, master of kung fu in the dragon style of the south.

There are hundreds of fighting styles classified as kung fu, the martial art that became popular after a series of films with american actor Bruce Lee, created in Hong Kong.

Bruce Lee died in 1973.

With the fall of the popularity of the fight in the last few years, practitioners want to find ways to transmit knowledge to new generations.

The project in 3D, known as Hong Kong Martial Arts Living Archive (“Living Archive of the Martial Arts of Hong Kong”, in free translation), seeks to capture and preserve over 400 different styles of kung fu.

About 50 have already been registered until now.
