Renault and Nissan Motor announced on Monday an alliance with Microsoft to develop cloud computing services targeted for vehicles, a step in the direction to the plans of the group franco-japanese to create car stand-alone up to 2020.
The services, based on the Azure cloud computing service of Microsoft, will include advanced navigation, preventative maintenance and software updates.
Renault and Nissan plan to launch more than 10 vehicles with steering technology stand-alone up to 2020. In January, the alliance hired the former executive of Nokia, Ogi Redzic, to lead the work in the area of connected car.
The automakers announced last week the purchase of software development company French Sylpheo to offer new services, including urban transport, and sharing vehicles.
