The Emater and public administration Tupãssi, western Parana, facilitate use of technology in Parana field. A project offers Precision Agriculture for smallholders at a lower cost than market.
Carlos Pereira Alves is one of 400 farmers who are part of the program. A crop to another he harvested 21 bags more than soybeans per hectare. Last year, before planting the grain, the soil was prepared with the help of new machinery that made it possible to assess the exact needs of each area of the crop. “We put a fertilizer, seed and planting. I just do not know what the land was needing it. Now it’s different,” he says.
In precision agriculture soil is pierced several times to 20 cm and a sample of house area is removed. The land taken to the laboratory is analyzed and thus know exactly what quantity of product required to correct the land and leave it ready for planting.
With the map in hand the Emater engineer guides the farmer . Every application is guided by the GPS system, so it’s just dumped the amount of scheduled product. “The challenge was to adapt this technology that is focused on large property for small farms to family farms,” explains coach Ernie Emater Bragagnolo.
The Precision Farming efficiency is already well known for large producers. Companies that offer this service charge approximately R $ 120.00 per hectare. This project is a chance of small farmers have access to high technology at a cost much lower than the market. The smaller the area the greater the subsidy program.
To prepare the fertility map you are under 12 hectares paid R $ 25.00. The values going up gradually depending on the size of the area, reaching R $ 50.00 over 48 hectares. The application also has a 50% discount.
