The Bank of Portugal transmitted to credit institutions that the card issuer must inform the customer about the conditions of use of the card and sets the maximum value allowed for each payment “contactless”.
As a rule, the bank customer may only make payment “contactless “without entering a PIN if the value of the transaction is less than 20 euros and if you have not yet attained the overall value of 60 euros, says the governor.
Once exceeded these limits, the client can only re-payments “contactless” after performing a new operation (in TPA or ATM) with insertion of the respective PIN.
As an additional security measure, the Bank of Portugal suggests that requested the card PIN code in transactions “contactless” random.
Even if the card supports this technology, the holder can choose to make payments without recourse to it. Similarly, also the card can be used at terminals other than “contactless”.
The Bank of Portugal has sent these instructions to credit entities because “considers it important that the holders of payment cards’ contactless ‘are properly informed about the characteristics and conditions of use of these cards. “
