6 January 2017 – Computerworld Portugal

the aim of The european project led by Indra is to mitigate the effects of climate change in cities.

Lisbon - ESAThe european project Decumanus developed a new tool, based on spatial technology, which provides data on energy efficiency, urban climate, the quality of air and water, impact on health or land use in urban areas or changes in the volume of the population.

The tool combines the use of the technologies of Earth Observation, satellite images, the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data and Data Analytics and provide 90 urban indicators, grouped into seven major units, on different variables, refers to information of the consultant.

The project Decumanus was funded by the European Union under the 7th Framework Programme and with the participation of 11 partners from seven countries.

Indra led the work of a consortium which included the participation of the companies Eurosense, Geoville and this time, controlware, the Aerospace Centre German (DLR) and the university Politécnica of Madrid and the University of the West of England in Bristol.

The project still had the support of the local authorities of Amberes, Helsinki, London, Madrid, and Milan, as they acted as end users.

users can know in which areas have the highest temperatures, or have a worse quality of air or where the green areas of a city.

In the context of the Decumanus, the data from the satellites and networks of sensors across the city and integrate with the information transmitted by other sources, such as registrations, the statistics of official bodies, or social networks, details the press release.

it Is the case of indicators on energy efficiency in buildings and calculates the costs and savings associated with your rehabilitation. Public administrations, businesses and even citizens can know in which areas have the highest temperatures or lower or have a worse quality of air or where the green areas of a city, ” explains Indra.

The analytical services provided are based mainly on satellite images. By way of example, the monitoring of changes in the population can point to clues for the reformulation of the infrastructure available in the city, while the detection of zones with worse air quality can contribute to understand the causes and study solutions, providing eventually the production of applicable law.
