As president of the Bank of Brazil Foundation, José Caetano Minchillo, not only the winners will have their work recognized. “In the award, put a certificate in technology based on the degree of innovation, community involvement level, the social transformation that this project provides and the feasibility of putting into practice. All are stored in the Bank of Social Technology [BTS].”
“BTS” functions as a showcase. “We can pick up old projects and put them into practice, regardless of whether he was an award-winning project or not. Today the bank has 696 projects open to be applied in solving various problems.”
President says that one example was the tanks of technology implemented in the town Currency jump, 877 km from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The system is to have a pipe on the roof of a house, which captures rainwater and carries it for a semienterrada tank near the residence. Minchillo says this project was presented in 2001, the first edition of the award.
Despite having not turned out as winner, was applied by the federal government as part of the “Water for All” in 2012. Until June 2014, more than 80,000 tanks have been built in various cities of the Brazilian semiarid.
The award was established in 2001 and is held every two years. Last year, 1,011 projects competed in five categories, of which 192 received the certificate and entered the BTS. “We expect to receive around 800 projects. We are not concerned with the amount of entries, but with the quality of projects,” Minchillo said.
